General Position Summary:
The Data Governance Analyst is a member of the Enterprise Information Management team and is responsible for driving and maintaining global data definitions, catalogs and visibility into data lineage and quality for all of Columbia’s consuming applications and user communities. The Data Governance Analyst will possess strong communication skills and demonstrate an ability to work with all ranges of an organization to advance Columbia’s vision for enterprise data and analytics. This resource will be dedicated to a scrum team(s), providing tactical delivery of Columbia’s data governance framework and policy for the Enterprise Data and Analytics He/She will partner closely with each line of business to align data sources around common standards and to create clear, actionable practice for consumption, quality, and use.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Supports development of data governance framework, establishment of enterprise data governance policies, processes, standards, and roles across all data systems and projects
  • Supports definition of authoritative data sources, data quality standards and quality assurance metrics
  •  Creates visible scorecards, dashboards, and metrics to align direction and progress toward data consistency and reliable, known sources of truth
  •  Provides transparency to user communities regarding data quality issues and remediation status
  •  Actively participates in and helps facilitate data governance working sessions and groups
  •  Drives resolution of source, definition, naming, and business rule conflicts among consuming applications and user communities
  •  Partners with Data Owners and Stewards to maintain and keep current the CSC Data Catalog
  •  Ensure adequate controls are in place to safeguard data assets
  •  Perform other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  •  Broad knowledge and expertise in all phases of data lifecycle
  •  Strong project and time management skills
  •  Ability to work and partner with cross functional teams, including IT, and manage partner expectations
  •  Ability to influence without direct authority
  •  Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, necessary
  •  Ability to evaluate processes and drive improvement
  •  Ability to foster new ideas and concepts and make decisions surrounding complex issues
  •  Intermediate understanding of data architecture concepts
  • Intermediate understanding of privacy laws and regulations
  • Exposure to wholesale and/or retail solutions preferred
  • Exposure to Data Governance solutions preferred


Education and Experience

  •  Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years professional experience in related positions working with data, integrations or databases
  • Experience defining and implementing Data Governance models based on industry best-practices

Job Scope:
Job involves high degree of variability and change in work situations and a moderate to high degree of complexity. Incumbent is responsible for supporting the establishment of best practices and procedures, developing and assigning tasks, and critically evaluating the work of others. Many duties are performed independently with minimal supervision. A high level of autonomy and accountability is expected regarding decision making. Position has high visibility due to directly impacting strategic and enterprise projects and initiatives.

Job Conditions:
Job requires hours that may occasionally exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week during times of peak activity. Position may be required to be “on-call” for assistance with critical errors or system, recovery. Evening meetings and/or weekend work occasionally required to collaborate with people in other time zones and to ensure timely project completion. Some job pressure exists in the balancing of several projects with conflicting and sometimes changing requirements and deadlines. Occasional travel may be required.
