Design and Deployment of a Chimney Service App

A Chimney Service App Design image

We were buried in paperwork and inconsistent reports. Centizen delivered a mobile app that’s simple enough for every technician on our team to use and powerful enough to streamline our entire inspection process. What used to take hours now takes minutes. Their team understood both our business and our limitations.

Chimney Check

An independent chimney maintenance and inspection company serving residential communities across multiple regions.

With a growing technician workforce and a focus on professional-grade service delivery, the company aimed to replace paper-based reporting with a digital inspection solution tailored to field conditions. Their broader goal was to elevate operational efficiency without overwhelming non-technical users.

The Challenge

Transform a manual, paper‑based inspection and scheduling workflow into a user-friendly mobile application that non‑technical technicians can use efficiently in the field.

The Solution

Centizen implemented a responsive, icon-rich mobile UI/UX design with guided workflows, real-time scheduling, and offline capabilities tailored for field technicians.

The Outcome

The new app enabled smoother job execution, improved technician adoption, and enhanced service consistency across all technicians within three months.

The Solution

Discovery & Planning

Centizen began by collaborating closely with the client’s operations and field teams to understand the day-to-day challenges technicians faced. Through stakeholder interviews, site visits, and workflow analysis, the team mapped key processes and identified usability gaps. User personas and journey maps were created to reflect the needs of a largely non-technical workforce. This informed the design priorities, clear navigation, minimal typing, and guided input flows that aligned with real-world inspection routines.

Design & Development

With a technician-first approach, Centizen developed wireframes and prototypes that emphasized icon-driven navigation, high-contrast elements for visibility in outdoor environments, and one-handed usability. The app was built to support both Android and iOS platforms from a single codebase, optimizing development time and long-term maintenance. The interface was designed to minimize user friction, enabling technicians to efficiently navigate through checklists, dropdown menus, and inspection fields. Offline-first architecture ensured the app remained fully functional in low- or no-connectivity zones, with data syncing automatically once a network was available.

Mobile App Development & Report Generation

Centizen built the application with multi-device compatibility in mind. Once inspection data was entered, the app automatically produced clean, professional PDF reports. These reports reflected the client’s branding, complete with logo, company colors, and organized content sections, to ensure a consistent customer-facing experience.

Testing, Delivery & Support

Extensive testing was conducted across multiple device types to ensure stability and performance. Real-world technician feedback informed adjustments to field navigation, input flow, and image handling. Push notifications were added to support job confirmations and reminders. A comprehensive training guide and inline help text were developed to support smooth onboarding for both new and existing technicians. Final delivery included production-ready builds for both Android and iOS, with a scalable foundation in place to support future enhancements.
